With Elections Round the Corner, BJP Alleges Siddaramaiah Govt Yet to 'Take Off'

Bengaluru: Opposition BJP on Thursday mounted a scathing attack on the Siddaramaiah regime in the Karnataka Assembly, claiming that both law and order and the general administration had “collapsed” in the state and the nearly five-year old government was yet to “take off”.

Accusing Ministers of indulging in “religion politics”, Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar questioned whether the government was “dead or alive”.

“Three months are left for elections in the state, the government has still not taken off,” he said during the debate on the motion of thanks to Governor for his address to the Assembly.

He said “take off has only happened in advertisements, this government has created a record of sorts in
advertisements.”

Claiming that money allocated had still not been spent by various departments, Shettar said in key departments such as irrigation, social justice and PWD performance was not up to mark.

He also hit out at Ministers M B Patil and Vinay Kulkarni who are actively involved in organising conventions demanding separate religion status to dominant Lingayat community.

“The Chief Minister gave other work to these ministers, instead of looking after their departments. They were indulging in religion politics and organising conventions for them,” Shettar alleged.

Calling Siddaramaiah regime as “non performing” government, the senior BJP leader claimed people were asking “is the government there or not? Is it alive or dead?”

He also said transfers have become very general under this government, and honest officials were being shifted indiscriminately.

“Food and civil services department has seen Commissioners being changed 19 times in four years,” he said.
