Selja Heads Candidates Panel For Rajasthan

Congress President Rahul Gandhi has made Dalit leader of Haryana and Rajya Sabha MP Kumari Selja as the chairperson of the Congress screening committee for the distribution of tickets in Rajasthan. Four national secretaries are given the responsibility of 200 seats, that is 50 seats to each. Although the date of election is yet to be announced, the candidates along with their supporters have begun canvassing for tickets not only in Jaipur but also at the residence of Kumari Selja in Delhi. They are also approaching Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot for tickets and the infighting between the candidates and their supporters can be seen in many programmes of the party. In view of a perceived Congress wave in Rajasthan, senior leaders and former MPs are also approaching the high command for tickets. The AICC headquarters has asked the ticket seekers and their supporters not to come Delhi for tickets.

MAMATA ON INVESTMENT SCOUTING. MISSION

Mamata Banerjee away to Italy and Germany in search of investments in West Bengal, she has given the responsibility of the state to 11ministers and also made a committee of Secretaries, who will look after the state affairs in her absence. She will away for eleven days during which she will be in Germany for five days, after which she will go to Milan, Italy and is expected to be back in Kolkata on 28 September. The West Bengal government has organised a business conference in Frankfurt attended by German businessmen and industrialists. She will also meet them individually and discuss investment opportunities. The opposition parties in West Bengal have described the exercise as a waste of money.

CONGRESS STEALS AN INAUGURATION SHOW

With the Madhya Pradesh elections expected to be a close fight, both the ruling BJP and Congress are engaged in a desperate race to outdo each other. Congress MP Kantilal Bhuria and his supporters went to the extent of inaugurating a government medical college a day before Shivraj Singh Chouhan was to perform the act. The Congress MP and his supporters have been arrested. Bhuria virtually stole the show by force.

INDICTED UTTARAKHAND IAS MEN SUSPENDED

Uttarakhand chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has shown he is fully in charge by suspending the two IAS officers who were indicted in the National Highway (NH) 74 road widening scam in which Pankaj Kumar Pandey and Chandresh Kumar Yadav, who had served as district Magistrates (DMs) of Udham Singh Nagar were involved. Pankaj Pandey is currently serving as secretary (in-charge) of panchayati raj and rural development department and chief executive officer of the skill development mission while Chandresh Yadav is holding the position of additional secretary, general administration department. The action comes in spite of intense pressure from the IAS lobby and opposition leaders.

DIGVIJAY’S ‘SANGAT MEIN PANGAT’

After Narendra Modi’s Chai pe Charcha and Amarinder Singh’s Coffee with Captain, Digvijay Singh has launched Sangat mein Pangat (community feast and chat). Singh’s idea is to provide a forum for disgruntled elements in the Madhya Pradesh Congress and special interest groups to air their problems. Since Kamal Nath is PCC chief and Jyotiraditya Scindia campaign in-charge, Singh has perforce to carve out a noticeable role for himself. (IPA)
