Nobody In BJP Makes The 1 Paisa Cut

Sushil Kutty

Looks like come mid-2019 Modi will be out on the mat, memories of Jakarta 2018 fading. The one-time Prime Minister will then remember his many foreign trips and the diaspora will sing a hosanna with tears in their eyes. Madison Square Garden will continue to host large crowds but not like the one at which RajdeepSardesai got roughed up because he stepped out of turn and asked the wrong question about Narendra Modi.

Thursday, May 31, 2018, Sardesai held forth on the latest round of bypolls and, with numbers flashing on the small-screen, wondered aloud whether this was it, this was it…

“Akhilesh and Maya are smiling again..,” his voice droned, the smile on his face at odds with the not gob-smacked smile on SambitPatra’s face. The bypoll results did not astound the BJP national spokesperson, they were so much like what was expected.

RajdeepSardesai will not now, but will mid-2019 show his glee: Modi and Shah are giving on a platter to the Opposition the reins of India! For how long can surveys and opinion polls prop up the myth that Modi is invincible? Seems like not only the man but the surveys and polls also suffer from delusion. The grand Opposition alliance worked its magic in Kairana, too. Coming after Gorakhpur and Phulpur, the writing is on the wall: PM Modi has very little time left to complete his world tour.

Did Modi and Shah err in placing Yogi Adityanath at the helm in Uttar Pradesh? Seems like Yogi’s bald pate did not go down well with the Romeo hairstyles of the UP youth his police force pulled out from parks and other public places to trash and bash. The same police force which he let loose on gangsters, the UP don and his lackeys. That too was a decision wrong by a distance because the UP Bhaiya loves his louts and bullies, their swagger and their tough talk. Goondagardi to the Yadav is what victimhood is to the Dalit, they hold them close to their chests.

Still, it’s impossible to believe that the party which won 325 assembly seats is today with its back to the wall in Ram’s land, where a temple to the Lord is no longer catching votes because people have seen through the gates and don’t see anything to the foundation. They say the road to the Prime Minister’s chair is through Lucknow! Whichever party wins the most number of Uttar Pradesh’s Lok Sabha seats will rule Hindustan. Seems like Prime Minister Narendra Modi got his chance and chanced it and lost it.

That being said, Modi has a couple of more chances to make a comeback: The assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Rajasthan he can count as a loss without even trying because the Rajput there has had enough unbeatable myths like that of Padmavati and mean-mean AlauddinKhilji to care. Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh offer to Modi only a load of anti-incumbency.

Then, you wonder, who all, besides the NRI, are Narendra Modi’s constituency? Some analysts say the poor of the country, those who got LPG and Jan Dhan Yojana and toilets to ease bowels without displaying double-moons to the grasshopper! But then comes the ‘1 paisa cut’ and those of Modi’s vintage remember the song ‘Garibon Ki Suno/WohTumhariSunega/Tum Ek Paisa Doge/ WohDus Lakh Denge’. Today’s ‘garib’ doesn’t buy petrol or diesel and one paisa is not even peanuts to him. What, there isn’t even a 1 paisa coin in circulation anymore!

Narendra Modi is either the man who doesn’t care a whit to win again so long as he sets in motion tectonic shifts that are good for the nation long-term or is a lost visionary doomed to be one-time King! Besides, he is no dynast with an heir to hand kingship to. Amit Shah is too big for Modi’s boots and the Yogi, who people thought would wear the King’s crown on his bald head, also doesn’t qualify in the people’s court. Nobody in the BJP – neither Modi nor Shah or Gorakhpur’s Mahant – makes the 1 paisa cut to become PM come mid-2019!

The only guarantee that Modi can vouch for is that when he goes down, he will take the Congress and Rahul Gandhi down with him. At least that’s what Maya and Mamata want to see happen. And when two women get together you never know what’s cooking till they laddle it up. The men they have messed up India. It’s up to the women to clean-up! (IPA Service)

An appeal

The legacy of IPA, founded by Nikhil Chakravartty, the doyen of journalism in India, to keep the flag of independent media flying high, is facing the threat of extinction due to the effect of the Covid pandemic. Only an emergency funding can avert such an eventuality. We appeal to all those who believe in the freedom of expression to contribute to this noble cause.
