Masterstroke for UP; BJP deploys former Gujarat home minister to strengthen party

Ego issues are being put aside and with this policy marching towards the 2019 Lok Sabha elections the Bharatiya Janata Party deployed Wednesday former Gujarat home minister Gordhan Zadaphia to Uttar Pradesh, having a total of eighty constituencies, to contribute to strengthening the party in the state.

Other popular faces who have fallen out may also be appointed at such key positions formally or informally before India goes into polls.

Uttar Pradesh sends maximum number of parliamentarians in the Lower House and in 2014 BJP virtually reached saturation point in the state with NDA grabbing 73 seats.

RSS prabharis meanwhile have been appointed in each of the seats which were won by BJP in last Lok Sabha elections to collect feedback on the performances of local MPs. The party is putting all its might to mitigate expected losses believing BSP and SP may join hands. Countering strength comes from RSS and VHP, which have been lately upping ante on Ayodhya’s Ram temple.

RSS joint general secretary Krishna Gopal is on monitoring mode at the developments in the state and probably his words would determine fate of couple of forthcoming elections.

It is learned RSS has been advising the party about issues that exists in UP and in which constituencies the party is lacking combating to the issues.

Apart from all these, it is doubtless that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is still popular in the state and his constituency Varanasi is being handled by several senior BJP leaders like C R Patil from Navsari in Gujarat spends most of the weekends here to oversee projects in districts.

An appeal

The legacy of IPA, founded by Nikhil Chakravartty, the doyen of journalism in India, to keep the flag of independent media flying high, is facing the threat of extinction due to the effect of the Covid pandemic. Only an emergency funding can avert such an eventuality. We appeal to all those who believe in the freedom of expression to contribute to this noble cause.
