Kim Jong Writes to Trump Seeking Another Meeting

North Korea has written a new letter to Donald Trump asking for a second meeting and it is learned the White House is looking for a date.

Kim Jong Writes to Trump Seeking Another Meeting

Since June 12 summit both the leaders are in talks about nuclear programme of North Korea. However, the discussions have been criticized citing short on concrete details about whether Kim Jong-un is completely willing to up up the program and in what way.

The nuclear weapons program of North Korea had been a threat to United States for long.

However, timing of the meeting is not yet clear and it is assumed talks may take place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York scheduled later this month.

It is also not yet clear whether Kim would attend the New York meet of UN as Trump National Security Adviser John Bolton raises doubt.

At a press briefing during a military parade in Pyongyang on Sunday the White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said, “It was a very warm, very positive letter… The primary purpose… was to request and look to schedule another meeting with the president which we are open to and are already in the process of coordinating that.”

She added that the letter carries a message of continued commitment of North Korea to focus on denuclearization of the peninsula.

Director of defense studies from the Center for the National Interest, Harry Kazianis, said the president is doing the right thing by setting up another meeting with the leader of North Korea.

He added, “When you combine Kim’s pledge to denuclearize by the end of Trump’s first term, as well as not displaying any long-range ballistic missiles during the north’s recent 70th anniversary celebrations, there are reasons for optimism.”
