Lok Sabha seats sharing among parties in Bihar’s Opposition Grand Alliance seems to be intensifying following the exit of Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) from NDA and joining hands with Rahul Gandhi-led Congress party.
Bharatiya Janata Party offered just two seats, below expectation of five, to RLSP and this turned to be a primary reason for his quit from NDA.
There are forty Lok Sabha seats in Bihar and Kushwaha has asked for at least seven seats from both Congress and RJD, main party in the Grand Alliance.
Congress has demanded for sixteen seats and this has generated pressure on RJD, led by Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tejashwi Yadav, for a compromise.
In 2014 Lok Sabha elections RJD contested on 27 seats and Congress for twelve. The performances were poor for both the parties. RJD managed winning four seats while Congress grabbed just two.
Yadav meanwhile is seeking his party to contest on at least 27 seats in Bihar and Congress is adamant for 16 following recent win in three Assembly elections – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh.
There are six constituents in Bihar’s Grand Alliance and they are RJD, Congress, Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), RLSP, Sharad Yadav’s Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) and the Left parties.
It is learned LJD could be merged with RLSP and this may increase demand on seat sharing by RLSP. It will be seven, including two for Yadav.
A senior RJD leader said, “The Grand Alliance has become much stronger now after RLSP’s entry, but sharing of seats would be a bit difficult under the new situation.”
