Delhi At Risk Of Flood As Yamuna Water Level Crosses Danger Level

Water level of Yamuna in Delhi region has crossed the danger mark and an alert by the state government has been issue of flood.

According to Irrigation and Flood Control department of Delhi government people residing in the low-lying areas will be evacuated.

A press statement released by East Delhi district administration raads, “The Water Level of River Yamuna at Delhi Old Rly Bridge reached at 204.10 metres at 7 p.m. on July 27 (above the warning level) and has a rising trend.”

Meanwhile, it is learned rescue boats have been deployed at several low-lying areas and floodplains for the safety of residents and safety advisory announcements are being made through a loudspeaker.

Thursday morning Haryana government released 1.36 lakh cusecs of water and at 7 p.m. the same day another 1.87 lakh cusecs was released. Similar move was taken on Friday too.

Irrigation and flood control department official said usually it takes about two days for water released from Hathni Kund barrage to reach Delhi.

Hathni Kund barrage is some 200 kilometers from Delhi.

The Indian Meteorological Department office predictions add Delhi and neighboring places will get more rains.

IMD added further, “A low-pressure area over western Uttar Pradesh and its neighborhood persists. This system will bring widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and northwest Madhya Pradesh during the next two days.”
