Congress
Party’s ‘mistress-stroke’ to the BJP’s ‘masterstroke’, Priyanka Gandhi’s
induction into the Congress did not need a surgical strike, she was already in
the silo in Uttar Pradesh, waiting to be fired. Now they say she’s the
Brahmastra in the Congress armoury. That the coordinates are set and the
missile is aimed at Varanasi, the oldest city on the planet, also called Kashi
and Banaras. Prime Minister Narendra Modi constituency.
The
Prime Minister better watch his back and head. The Brahmos has the ability to
nosedive from points above! Yogi Adityanath, also. His pasture, Gorakhpur is
within range, plus quite a few other constituencies – 21 in all, says a
UP-know-all. The fact of the matter is Rahul Gandhi, when he announced sister
Priyanka’s new role, it arced and pricked ears everywhere. The BJP reacted as
if pants down. Pardon the euphemism, but sartorial elegance will be one
department Modi, and more so Yogi, will have to careful about with a lady as
eye-catching as Priyanka Gandhi in the arena.
Gladiators
cannot go around without mail and bride – one celibate sant and the other

procreation department, but there is always one member strike-ready to hit and
put the enemy into disarray, out of contention.
For
sure, Priyanka’s “entry” into Uttar Pradesh politics is late by years, but now
that she’s there to take on the mantle, equations and permutations are all up
for grabs. The Bhai-Behen combination has unsettled not only BJP’s arithmetic,
it has also changed Behen Mayawati’s algebra, both ‘Bua’ and ‘Bhatija’ have
been forced to tweak.
How
many days left to Election Day, 2019; 90 or 100? The Election Commission of
India has not yet spoken, hit as it is by the EVM Brahmos, but give or take
90-100 days, more than enough time for Brahmos-Priyanka to find target and hit
pinpoint, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Allahabad… quite a many other. The
ripples will be felt all over Uttar Pradesh and the Congress is contesting all
of the 80 seats. Did the gathbandhan expect this? By Mayawati, no!
Wednesday
evening, BSP spokespersons were bristling, voices growling. Ally Samajwadi
Party was less tigerish, but then, the elephant, when it gets riled, can off
the silos faster than any tiger caught by the tail. This column is confident
Priyanka Gandhi’s induction will burn and stove the SP-BSP gathbandhan in quite
a few constituencies where it is poised to win. Victory now gets just a little
further for all other parties, SP, BSP and BJP.
A
blitzkrieg of Priyanka rallies will change chemistry faster than arithmetic
leaving in their wake lots of people shouting Mama Mia! The Congress has
already one Priyanka in its ranks, but that is ‘Chaturvedi’ and this one is
‘Gandhi’. There is difference, the Congress rank and file, including Ghulam
Nabi Azad, removed from Uttar Pradesh to make way for Priyanka Gandhi and
Jyotiraditya Scindia, will tell.
Congress
workers and supporters can’t be more thrilled than to have a Gandhi dynast
leading from the front. And Priyanka Gandhi for them is the rarest of rare of
the Gandhis! They (Congress workers and supporters) are talking about Priyanka
Gandhi in Trivandrum and Malappuram and in Srinagar and Barramula, the
name-recognition is Instant Bru and Nescafe, it hits the brain and sets the
adrenaline flowing.
But
don’t forget, Kerala and Kashmir have a different connect than the rest of
India. Caste-stitched Uttar Pradesh with colours of religion is vastly
different. And Narendra Modi has the ability to guide the narrative to suit his
story. Rahul Gandhi Wednesday said “My sister Priyanka is very capable.” For
