BJP’s masterstroke before election – 10% quota for EWS

Quota for economically weaker sections (EWS) could work like a masterstroke for Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. It is one of the several big moves and good leap for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in unfurling significant schemes.

BJP, election, quota, EWS

BJP is seeking to offer a quota of 10 percent to such EWS category people across castes. This mean the upper caste constituency will come under grip amid their recent unhappiness due to changes in the SC/ST Act.

Ever since the changes BJP has been facing tough criticisms from upper castes. The SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act was passed in the Parliament lately.

The NDA government is working on couple of relevant measures for farmers before the elections like income support to them, but a national farm loan is not on their campaign cards. There is a strong push towards construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya too.

However, the land ownership case in Ayodhya is still pending in the apex court. BJP is hooked here amid pressure from VHP, RSS and other groups to build the temple.

BJP president Amit Shah has hinted to wait for the judgment of Supreme Court.

In the income support to farmers the government is learned to be compensating for gap between sale price of crops and procurement prices that is fixed by the government.

Apart from all these, the government is considering waiving of electricity dues in the BJP-ruled states. The move is working satisfactorily in Assam and Gujarat.
