BJP to play Hindutva, development, rural issue cards in 2019 election campaign

Alliances may be important to suppress Bharatiya Janata Party in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, but Congress need to know it should be crafted carefully. The win in three Hindi states (MP, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh) should not lead the Rahul Gandhi-led party turn to oblivion that two plus two was not four in Telangana. The Congress+TDP+CPI+TJS alliance failed in real match.

BJP, 2019 election

The Telangana experiment now cautions opposition parties to form alliances. It is the right time for them to ponder whether to go for it or quit. For Congress, with or without alliances, would be a great mistake to focus the 2019 election campaign only on farmers’ issues.

For the BJP there are two strong cards – development and Hindutva. The electoral performances of the party in 1998 and 1999 suggest politics of Hindutva played an important role and in 2014 the promised development helped emerge as majority to form government.

However, some may suggest the Hindutva card may not work for BJP, but it should solely be by championing record of development. If possible, it should be development plus something else, probably with an issue that may have a national appeal and the party should cut across voters of different communities and castes. Thus, why not to pick the issues of nationalism?

It is even being suggested there is a possibility of rural issues, and it should be something more or different from the issues of farmers. This would dominate the 2019 election campaign for BJP.
