BJP open for alliances, cherishes old friends: Modi

Bharatiya Janata Party is lately seeking further strengthening of the NDA and probably more in the South. Interacting with booth-level workers Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the party is open to alliances.

Cash handout, monthly income support for farmers on card before polls

Modi was talking through video conferencing to party workers of five districts in Tamil Nadu through video conferencing and said BJP cherished old friends.

The PM recalled successful coalition politics during the era of former prime minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said the party has always left the doors open for alliances and old friends.

He said twenty years ago Vajpayeeji introduced new culture by giving good importance to regional aspirations and the result was successful coalition politics.

Modi added, “BJP has followed the way Atalji has shown us.”

This was the fourth interaction of Modi with party workers in Tamil Nadu and his comment was in response to questions raised by workers whether the party would ally with DMK, AIADMK or Rajnikanth.

Modi said the Congress party has always ill-treated regional parties while Atalji had always cared for regional aspirations.

He said the Congress party always felt they alone have the right to be in power and hence ill-treated people too.

In last Lok Sabha elections, 2014, BJP fought in the state leading a rainbow alliance and the party included MDMK and PMK. Together they were able to grab 39 seats.
