Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has moved to Calcutta High Court to seek legal permission for its high-profile Rath Yatra in Bengal that is scheduled to kickstart on December 7 from Cooch Behar. The rally will be conducted by the state unit of the party under banner Save Democracy Rally.
The Rath Yatra will start at around 10 am from Madan Mohan Thakur Bari with puja performance by BJP national president Amit Shah, who will also address a public meeting in Jhingaidanga before flagging off the rally.
According to senior BJP leader Pranab Pal the strong attempts of the party will cover eight assembly constituencies of West Bengal covering about 200 kms.
The inaugural ceremony will be held in the presence of several senior BJP leaders including national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, state president Dilip Ghosh and Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb.
Three air-conditioned buses decorated as chariots will carry BJP leaders for a political travel in entire Bengal for about forty days. It will cover all 42 Lok Sabha constituencies.
On December 9 the Rath Yatra will begin from Kakdwip in south 24 Parganas district and thereafter from Tarapith temple in Birbhum district on December 14.
Dilip Ghosh said, “This will be one of the biggest event by the BJP in Bengal. Our national party president Amit Shah ji will be present here and this will be a call for ‘parivartan’ in Bengal. It is to oust the Mamata Banerjee led TMC government in Bengal.”
He added the party is expecting huge response in Bengal witb this Rath Yatra.
BJP is expecting to win 22 seats out of 42 from Bengal. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections the party won just two – Assam and Darjeeling.
