BJP Hoping For A Nitish Act By Kumaraswamy

By Rahil Nora Chopra

The BJP is convinced that the chemistry between Karnataka CM H.D. Kumaraswamy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is proving to be good. The PM has already met him twice and has been rather affectionate towards Gowda Jr. With the Karnataka Congress camp, particularly Siddaramaiah, up in arms over the budget issue, BJP insiders are giving the coalition three months time. The buzz is that Kumaraswamy by then may be ready to do a Nitish Kumar on the Karnataka Congress.

BIHAR CM’S OVERTURES TO LALU

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has called Lalu to enquire about his health. Observers say the call may be an indication that Nitish wants to open a channel with Lalu in spite of opposition from Lalu’s son Tajeshwi Yadav, who is angry over the loss of his position as deputy chief minister. Nitish has also opened his channels with Congress. He wants to show the BJP his strength and wants more seats in the coming Lok Sabha elections so that at the slightest hint of trouble he can again join hands with the RJD-Congress alliance.

PRANAB VISIT BOOSTS RSS MEMBERSHIP

Former President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur on June 7 has created much interest in the right wing organisation’s work, it seems At least that’s what was extracted from a recent RSS conference. The daily applications for membership which stood at 378 pre June 7 have jumped to 1,779 after Mukherjee’s much-highlighted visit. And 40 percent of the applications are from West Bengal, which earlier used to be only a handful. The Sangh has no issues about admitting that its acceptability among Bengalis has increased proportionately after the former President’s endorsement of their activities. And it’s evidently showing up on the Sangh website as well.

RAJASTHAN BJP MAN FORMS NEW PARTY

With Madan Lal Saini having been made president of Rajasthan BJP after the departure of Ashok Parnami, senior MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari has left the party and formed his own party, declaring that it will fight the assembly election in every seat. Tiwari was a minister in the Bhairon Singh Shekhawat government as well as the previous ministry of Vasundhra Raje, but was excluded from the present government. He had apparently complained against this to the RSS and the central leadership of BJP several times but in vein. Baba Ram Dev is also said to have pleaded his case with the BJP leadership. At present the Gujjars are with Sachin Pilot and Mali Biradari with Ashok Gehlot and Brahims with Ghanshyam Tiwari, which makes it a difficult situation for BJP in Rajasthan.

ALL IS NOT WELL WITH MAMATA

It seems by some strange coincidence things are not working out for Mamata Banerjee. She had planned to visit China and America to solicit investment in her state, but first the China visit was cancelled and now the Vivekananda Vedanta Society, her host in the US, which is organising the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historical lecture next month, where she was to deliver the lecture, has politely informed her about the cancellation of programme. According to information, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will instead go to Chicago to attend the programme.

TRIVENDRA SINGH GETS A BOOST

The visit of BJP president Amit Shah to Dehradun and in Hardwar has boosted Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat’s situation as the party chief praised the chief minister’s work and called him as a friend and honest leader. At the Hardwar Sant Sammelan, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat also praised Rawat for his honesty and dedicated work for the development of Uttarakhand. (IPA)

An appeal

The legacy of IPA, founded by Nikhil Chakravartty, the doyen of journalism in India, to keep the flag of independent media flying high, is facing the threat of extinction due to the effect of the Covid pandemic. Only an emergency funding can avert such an eventuality. We appeal to all those who believe in the freedom of expression to contribute to this noble cause.
