Amit Shah to hold five public meetings in West Bengal

Bharatiya Janata Party now has a different plan for West Bengal following ruling of Supreme Court against the party’s proposed Rath Yatra in the state citing possible law and order situation issue.

Amit Shah, West Bengal

It is learned BJP President Amit Shah to hold five public meetings starting January 20 in Malda district. The next day he will be addressing to the people in Birbhum’s Suri while West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will hold a mega rally of all the opposition parties in Kolkata.

Shah will have a public meeting in Jhargram district on January 22 and in South 2 Pargana’s Joynagar. He will thereafter be seen addressing in Krishnanagar.

West Bengal BJP President Dilip Ghosh said as the Supreme Court has barred their Rath Yatra, the party will now call the election campaign in the staet as Ganantantra Bachao Sabha.

Ghose added Prime Minister Narendra Modi may address a public meeting too in Kolkata on February 8.

Meanwhile, the government recently passed a bill in Lok Sabha to give Indian citizenship to Bengali refugees in the state.

It will grant citizenship to the non-Muslims refugees who entered India fleeing Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan before December 31, 2014.

Party leader believes the bill will help BJP counter the allegation being anti-Bengali.

Following the publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC) several opposition parties including West Bengal ruling party Trinamool Congress had alleged BJP being anti-Bengali.

The Bengali refugees are mainly spread in bordering districts like North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Uttar Dinajpur and Cooch Behar.
